Help! Corrupted jpg file? Opened jpg with wrong program.

Help!
I accidently opened a known .jpg photo with the wrong program. Naturally I received an format error & worst of all I think the .jpg file is now corrupted. I can't see to reopen the photo file with any correct program.....dang it.

Is there any way of changing the properties to restore this .jpg?
I was going to use the "xp restore" but I can't restore to the last 45 mins. before I made the change.

This was my only pic like this. no backup....go figure...
Could the image be stored in some kind of cache file in Microsofts "Picture It" program on my pc?

Thanks!

Have you tried to right click on the file, go to properties and then change "open with" in order to change the association of the file? change it to open with Windows picture and fax viewer.

Yes, That's how I accidently opened the photo file with the wrong application to begin with.
I was going to edit the photo with a "Corel Photo" program instead I clicked the "Corel Print Shop" program.
Since then, I can't reopen the jpg photo with any of the programs listed....I can't believe the jpg file is non-repairable.

?????

Do you get the "Windows could not open this file" message and then have the option to search the internet for the correct program?

If I try opening the photo using Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, The application window opens correctly but in the center of the screen a message says "No preview available."

If I use Microsofts Picture It #9, again the application opens fine, but a get a message in the center of the screen "Sorry, this file can't be opened."

I even tried Microsoft Paint, message says "This is not a valid bitmap file, or it's format is not currently supported." which makes sense since 99 percent of my photos are in jpg format.

The file name is IMGP0428.JPG

Can I change back the properties of the jpg file itself?
Is there a temp file where I can retreive it from where it was last opened successfully?
Thanks!

Make a copy of it, and then with that copy rename it to .bmp or any other image format, and see if you can open it in any applications then.

Hello,

Using an existing jpg that opens fine with all the applications, I then renamed the jpg to an bmp file. I now can open the changed file using Microsoft Paint.

So I tried the same method with the bad jpg...didn't work. I couldn't open the photo using any program. darn....

Worth the try though...

Note the right clicked properties for a good file & the one bad file. Notice the tab changes also....hmmm
I even e-mailed the file to another pc, still can't open it.

Thanks!
I guess it's just gone.....live & learn...Shame on me for not backing it up first....
