burning data to dvd with nero

So i want to be able to backup my mp3 collection to a standard DVD but the collection is only 3.8gb and a dvd holds 4.35gb so i want to be able to add more mp3's later on. Can someone tell me how to do this? Also, can mp3 dvd's be played in a compatible mp3 player or does this only work for regular 700mb burned mp3 cd's? thanks guys.

Using the full Nero Burning ROM program, compile the DVD as you want (as a DATA DVD), then click burn - which brings up the various burning options (burn speed etc.) In this window, you'll see a check-box labeled 'finalize disc'. Leave this unchecked to be able to burn more data to this at a later date.

Non-finalised DVDs will read just fine in most DVD-ROMs - but mp3 CD players will not play DVDs at all.

I don't see burning to a 'data dvd' when using nero burning rom. the options listed are:

dvd rom (iso), dvd copy, dvd video, dvd rom (boot), dvd rom (udf), and dvd rom(udf/iso)

which one of these do i choose? thanks.

DVD-ROM (iso) is the one you want

I thought you had to use UDF to keep the disc open?

I'm *pretty* sure that you can use ISO format - one thing I forgot to add in my instructions, bhome83, is that when you initially choose what type of disc you want to burn, you need to make sure the "start multisession disc" option is checked on the same screen. I think it defaults to 'no multisession', which is why you couldn't uncheck the 'finalize disc' tick-box.

The only time I've had to use UDF format is when I've been burning single files larger than (i think) 2GB.

That sounds right. I knew there was a 2gb for something involved there. I have to use UDF to burn my Acronis images to DVD because I bust them up into 4gb chunks.

actually the create multisession disc is already ticked by default so i still have the problem. I think i found a way to circumvent the issue by using nero express--->then data dvd--->then there is a tick mark that says "allow files to be added later (multisession disc). im assuming this will work fine as well. though correct me if im wrong. kinda weird though it won't let me creat a multisession disc using nero burning rom. looks like i might just have to use nero express from now on.

If Express works, use it. The interface is easier anyway.
