The problem started with a countdown window saying it was going to restart my computer in a given amount of time. A win32 (or system32 I can't remember) problem. When it restarted it prompted me to put in my windows installation disc, I saw this as a threat because I've had viruses similar to this before. So, naturally I just shut it down because it didn't seem right to me.
We ended up wiping the hard drive after a dozen attempts to salvage windows without completely reformatting. So we start installing windows 2000, it gets about 80% done and it gives me an error that said something along the lines that my hard drive is corrupted. We make a second attempt and it does something different. This time it gets to a certain percentage then it comes up with a bunch of files (mainly .dll files) that failed to install completely. We try XP even and it comes up with the same problem. After a day of this we decide that it's a hard drive problem. So we go and buy a brand new hard drive. Get home, install it, and it once again fails to install. Could it be a drive problem (CD or DVD drive)? or a motherboard or chip problem? PLEASE HELP. |
