Question Upgrade To Office 2007?

I have been running the Office 2007 Beta for several months and it will end in March. At this time you have to uninstall it as functionality is lost.
Previously I had Office 2000 Professional installed.
Would I be able to install the 2007 Upgrade or do I have to buy the complete programme?

If 2000 Pro is a qualifying product to upgrade from, all you will need is the upgrade. You will probably need the 2000 CD or 2000 installed on the hard drive to do the upgrade.

I thought I read somewhere that along with Vista, Office 2007 "upgrade" requires that you have a previous version actually installed to do the upgrade as opposed to being able to just put in the disk when it asks for the previous qualifiying version?

Does anyone have any experience with this? Did it allow an upgrade without another version installed?

I am looking to buy 2007 and have 2003 pro installed now, but, I want to do a clean install of the whole computer when I do it. (OS and everything) I would like to just point it to the disk 2003 pro is on and do an install that way instead of loading 2003 then 2007.

Thanks.

Do I need a previous copy of office :

Yes. Office Ultimate 2007 will be available in both upgrade and new user versions. The upgrade version will require that you own a qualifying prior release of the Microsoft Office system.

What previous copy do you need ?
Depending on what you've got already check the list here : http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/su...754511033.aspx

I have the full install of Office 2003 Pro - disk, legal product key and all.

In previous versions, when you upgraded without another version installed on the computer, it said it can't find a previous version to upgrade from and asks if you want to point to the previous version. You could then put the cd of the previous version in the drive and point to it and it would continue with the installation.

I'm curious if you can do that with Office 2007 or if it needs to actually be fully installed on the HDD to qualify for the upgrade.

I have no problem installing 2003, then installing the upgrade to 2007, I just thought I could save time by going right to the 2007 upgrade disk.

Thanks

It needn't be installed.
Read through this thread :

You do not need to have a prior Office edition installed to use an Upgrade package provided that you have the original Microsoft

I'm not exactly sure how it will work with 2003, but in previous editions, the software would pause and ask for you to insert the CD with a valid prior product. After it read what it needed, you popped the install CD back in the tray and finished the install.

I've HEARD (???) that you can install 2007 and not register it, then come back and use it as the valid upgrade path, but I'm not sure about that, or the steps involved. I certainly do not advocate doing anything illegal or immoral, so check this out, and make sure that you do have the valid upgrade product.

Thank you pam123. I read that link and it told me what I wanted to know, just what you quoted.

Thanks again.
