WLM 8 sounds in chat window in focus

Windows live messenger 8, anyone now how to make WLM still notify me of a new Instant message when the chat window is in focus?

find it annoying that if i have go AFK that i dont know the conversation has continued or they are still typing etc when in focus.

the only option i have seen so far is by messenger plus live scripts which i dont want on my PC.

thanks
