Office 2003 updates

When I go into the "NEW" Microsoft Update site, I can download and install the updates for XP Pro. I can also download the updates for Office 2003, but the install always fails. I downloaded 13 updates for Office 2003 this evening, and I get this message after each one fails installation. "The feature you are trying to use in on a network that is unavailable. Click to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package PRO11.MSI in the space below " What is that all about ? I am not on a network here at home. I do notice that the "My Network Places" icon on the desktop moves to a new location after the installation attempt. Suggestions, please.

You need to put your Office CD in and run it.

mairving, thanks for the reply. I tried that. No good. I even tried doing the REPAIR function from the Office 2003 CD, still no good. I then tried to remove Office from the computer, could not do that either. It seems like it keeps looking for that PRO11.MSI folder. I can see that folder if I insert the CD and use Explorer. I even copied the folder from the CD to the desktop and then told the install program where to look, no good. ????

It sounds like it was installed from an admin checkpoint. Search your hard drive to see if this file is on your computer. If it isn't try doing an admin install by click start/run/cmd CD Drive letter/setup /a . Copy this to your hard drive and then point the update to that location.

I just installed the program from a CD about two weeks ago on this new computer. However I never tried to open Excel or Word on their own, since I was able to open up Excel worksheets that I had also copied from my older computer. I did just now tried to open Excel and Word on their own- no good. I guess the file on the CD got corrupted or the disc itself is damaged. But as I said above, I can open up Excel spreadsheets and even add to, and save them again. In the meantime, I will try your suggestion, thanks. Oh, I searched for that file, PRO11.MSI. It only shows up on the desktop where I just copied it to from the CD a few minutes ago. But I guess if the file on the cD is no good, that is not going to do any good.
