Bootable USB

hi, can i make a bootable usb, can i just copy windows files from my windows xp cd onto a usb and boot from that and install xp off a usb disk

One important part is that your mobo must support booting off a usb device.

will it say in the bios usb, all im seeing is removable devices would that count

It may or may not say it in the bios. In some bioes the option will not be there unless the device is plugged at boot up. Also if your bios has a boot disk option at startup plug the device in see if it is listed there.
