Serious booting up problems

Well the PC was working fine and fast until I installed the motherboard drivers. It got really slow afterwards and now it won't even boot. It only gets as far as having a black screen with a moveable cursor after the Windows intro noise. I can't uninstall the things now so I can't solve the problem!

Furthermore I got some mini error messages saying so and so.sys and so and so.dll can't be loaded/removed. It all was after mobo drivers installation. Help?

Update: Should I reinstall Windows and start over? If that works, how can I NOT install the drivers? I wouldn't get any sound in that case.

If you can boot it into safe mode, use system restore.

Don't you need to create a restore point to restore from? I had that problem with ME before... there was no restore point so lost everything anyway.

Anyway, after using repair Windows, it now boots up but it takes literally 5 minutes. That's slower than my dad's 11 year old Gateway and that's unbelieveably slow. What could be causing it? There's also error messages left right and center about McAfee not compatible with this and .dll and .sys unable to open.

Is this the system in your signature?

What OS are you using? WinXP or Vista?

Did you do a clean install or did you first install WinME and then upgrade?

Yep, signature it is. Using Windows XP and nope clean install of XP. Brought the parts 2 months ago and it's only just started to work-ish.

XP creates its own restore points quite frequently - didn't you even bother to look?
