Random app closure

Hey PCMechers,

A buddy of mine has been experiencing random application closures without error messages.

Battlefront 2, Morrowind, and Spider Solitaire are the most recent closures, and there are no issues re-opening them after said closures. Aside from recommending a full scan of the machine, what ideas do you guys n gals have? I doubt that it is a hardware issue, but the system is a Dell Dimension 3000. According to reviewers (thge system is not posted on the Dell website anymore...), the spec is as follows:

* Intel Celeron D 330 (2.66GHz) Processor
* 512MB PC3200 DDR Memory
* 80GB 7,200rpm Hard Drive
* 48x CD-RW Combo Optical Drive
* AC'97 Audio with Dell A215 Stereo Speakers
* Intel Extreme 2 Integrated Graphics with 64MB Shared Memory
* v.92 56Kbps Modem and 10/100 Ethernet
* Six USB 2.0 Ports and Three PCI Slots
* Dell E773c 17" CRT Monitor
* Windows XP Home, Word Perfect Productivity Pack, MS Money 2004 and McAfee Security Center

I'll try and find out some more details, but hopefully this will be enough.

That onboard video is pretty weak to game with - and 448mb system ram is pretty light for gaming too. That doesn't explain why Spider Solitaire crashes though - you can play that on anything. If it's software caused, the first thing I'd suspect is McCrappee. I'd decrapify the preinstalled garbage that's not used and examine the startup list.
