Can't come back from hibernation or standby

For some reason whenever I put my computer in stanby or hibernation mode I am unable to resume windows. I've tried pressing nearly everything on my key board and still nothing. I end up having to hold down the power button or pressing the reset button on my computer in order to turn the computer back on. Any help on how I can solve this problem?

Hibernation requires that you do press the power button to resume.

What about standby. Whenever I put my computer in standby mode it won't turn back on. Is there a setting or something else that I need to change?
