strange device detection before + after uninstall
Hey all. I recently installed RivaTuner thinking it might be better than NTune, but it proved a little complex and such, so I uninstalled it. I followed the simple tutorial here which in the beginning has you do some things and press "install", then you reboot. When I pressed "install", my computer detected a PCI device and a PCI (VGA compatible) device. I shrugged it off thinking it would go away once I completed the tutorial...but it didn't. I've uninstalled RivaTuner and even back up to a restore point from a week ago...but every time I go into Windows it detects these two unknown devices. Anyone have any idea why they're there and if I can get rid of them? I would assume it has something to do with RivaTuner editing the registry...and it's obviously not a physical piece of hardware.
EDIT: Oh yeah, someone on a different forum told me that part of the tutorial (where you click "install"), installs something called Nvstrap, he told me to search for Nvstrap.sys, which I did. However I couldn't find it. I decided to instead try searching the registry, and was surprised to find a folder called "Search Assistant" where some keys with descriptions mostly just saying "Nvstrap". Fearing that these were the problem, I back up the folder of keys and deleted it from the registry. However upon reboot my computer still detected the devices. I'm very confused...is there any way to just have Windows not look?
