I remember Ghost 2002 as being recommended for professionals but otherwise excellent.
It was Ghost 2003 that was the disaster. What I can't find is whether or not Ghost 2002 is going to be compatible with XP SP2 which came out in 2004 and did break applications. Microsoft says it's OK but I'm not at all sure about that. Check this out first : http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884130 As you can some Symantec stuff is no that list, though Ghost 2003 isn't. If anyone else chimes in that it works on their updated XP SP2 machine, you'll at least have something to go on. But failing that do you have a good reason for installing a 5 year old program that, no matter how good it was in it's time, can hose your system now?

I still use both and haven't had a problem yet. BUT, I just use the startup floppy and not the windows interface so I can't really comment on any windows issues.
Yes, Ghost is a good program for imaging. I'm at my laptop so I don't have the link, but there a a couple nice sites that explain how to use it pretty good. (but it's all in the book, if you have that.) My tips are to do a check disk and defrag before Ghosting. The check disk should be done to help prevent problems and the defrag is purely optional. Biggest tip is to always Check (validate) you're image or clone so there are no surprises later. |

yeah i purchased ghost 2002 a long time ago and i opened it and never used it. i was going to go to the store a purchase a new one but i decided to ask first. The reason i purchased 2002 was because my school at the time was using it on the computer 3d lab. when ever a computer went down they stuck a floppy in a BAM brand new again and dont have to install them programs again. The book im afraid is long gone im lucky i still have the cd but i will be trying to figure it out. The screen does look a little intimidating.
Should i learn 2002 or go to the store and get a new one? thanks guys |
