Are you looking for free software? Don't know of any freebies that are any better than the one built into Windows. If you're looking for something more comprehensive, Diskeeper is excellent, but isn't free.

Diskeeper Lite is free and better than Windows defrag - you can get version 9 if you download the full Intel Desktop Utilities - and install it from its folder by itself - don't need an Intel board.

4Diskclean Gold, It can fix Windows registry errors, delete unnecessary files and temporary folders, repair your system, prevent errors, delete duplicate files, erase all internet tracks (browser cache, history, and cookies), block spyware and adware computer pests....

I use O&O Defrag myself, and it does a great job.

I used to just use the old WinXP defragger for a long time, but recently switched to Diskeeper upon the advice of some guys in another forum.

I feel it is a huge improvement because DK frags faster than xp ever did (with comparable fragmentation levels). I can also defrag my Maxtor and my Hitachi simultaneously now without bogging down my system. There is an auto-defrag option, but I have not tried it yet, since manual defrag seems to be do the trick for me. I will try it out one of these days though to see how good it is.

Overall, Diskeeper has worked great and not given me any trouble at all, so I wouldnt mind recommending it.

I've been using Diskeeper Pro with the set it and forget it option for years. It kicks in about once a day on each drive and takes less than a minute.

I don't mind Window's defragger, but I am using the one glc linked above. Pretty darn good for free.

I use Diskeeper myself. Lite works fine for me. I heard Diskeeper is where microsoft got their defrag from originally. They should include one more like the recent Diskeeper with good automatic defragging for Vista. It would make mac people shut up about one more thing
