Uhh, download accelerator?
Well, I've heard of "download accelerators" but, what exactly do they do? I guess they make your downloads go faster? Another question, are these accelerators worth getting and which one? Thanks
 .

You need a download manager, they're very useful ( and Firefox has one of its' own ), but an "Accelerator" ?
OK, that may not be all together fair but that app. is often a malware delivery tool. Skip them unless they come as part of something else you trust, for instance Emusic has it's own down loader as does Movielink and they could be called accelerators, otherwise treat with extreme caution.

Resumer lets you pause the download and start it back up later without download the entire file over again.
DAP supposedly speeds up downloads, but I've also read that DAP is really a spyware delivery tool. What kind of connection do you have? Accelerators were popular in the dialup days, when everyone wanted just a little more speed. But if you have DSL or Cable, just enjoy the speed you have, an accelerator is not going to do anything for you.

Download Resumer is useful if you've got a dicey internet connection that cuts out without warning.
If you don't have that problem is just another piece of software you don't need on your computer. |

I have tried DAP and it works by allowing split-part downloads, meaning the files are split into separate parts, from 4-8 parts or so and that allows you to get a higher download speed up to your maximum DL speed.
Right now I am using the trial version of Internet Download Manager and it splits the files up to 8 parts, and uses just about the maximum download speed of my internet connection. I think IDM sounds like something I'd want to get, but I don't understand why I should pay for a download manager lol.
