What to open it with
Hi Gang
This is going to be a little hard to describe but stick with me. To give you an example of what I am trying to explain, I get PCmech newsletters, and today they sent a e-mail notifier, for Firefox and yahoo mail. Ok so you click on to download it. And it comes back with what do you want t open it with. This has always thrown me for a loop, what do you click on to open it with. Cant you have the download come back so you can just install it and start using it. Why does it come back this other way, is it some thing that my computer is set to do or the program I am downloading that does this.? I have done this successfully with pictures I want to have my printer open them, but on some thing like this, what can you pick from the list to open it. Nothing on the list is the right program to open it with. If it is a zip file that needs to be opened why does it just go to my zip file and I can o[pen it with my zip file program. There is nothing there to open it with that will work. It comes up as a program I cant remember what you call it. I was told once what it was but I have forgotten what you call it. A little square box, with 3 little dots in the center. If you don't understand what I am trying to explain just let me know and I will try to explain it differently. Thanks...........Gunny |

Sounds like you have file association issues. Instead of trying to open a file like that, download it to your desktop. Then you can right click, select properties and see what the file type is, ie: .zip, .jpg, etc. Then take a look in Control Panel>Folder Options>File types tab and see what program you have assigned to that file type as the one to open the file. If you still don't know what file to use, google the file type and see what programs are normally used. You may be looking at something like .rar files which would require downloading WinRar in order to view the file.

What browser are you using? If you're using Firefox, try downloading with IE and see what happens. Or visa versa.
