Help with printing in Excell 2003
Hi, I thought I would try a new thread with the current problem and see if I get any luck.
I downloaded a template for timekeeping at work, and had help in adding fields for more times in and outs. However, when I print it will not fit everything on one page. I have tried making some rows shorter to gain space, but it seems to not make any differences in the output to printer. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Here is the original topic in case someone wants to see what the template looks like. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=177848 I pretty much duplicated as in the attachment left for me by Stylin in post #19. Thanks, Terry |

The trick I have found is in the print preview view. Set the blue lines to the size of the page you wish to print and the print will be shrunk to fit the page. Trail and error is the best way to get the results you want. HTH

First of all, select the entire area that you need printed. Then on the File Menu, go to Print rea>Set Print Area and click on it. This will define to Excel the part of the page you want printed.
There are a couple of ways you can get Excel to print all your stuff so that it will stay on one page. 1. Go to File>Page Setup. On the Page tab, you can either reduce the size at which the page is printed, or set it so that it fits in x pages high by y pages wide. 1a. On the Page Setup Dialog, go to the Margins tab, and there reduce the top, bottom and side margins. You can gain some additional area by reducing the "Header" and "Footer" to zero, unless you have some text that is actually printed in those areas. 1b. While you are on the Page tab, see if you have the page set in the correct orientation (Portrait or Landscape). Select each and see which gives you the best result. 2. On the View menu, select Page Break Preview and drag the blue lines till they encompass the area you wish to print. Broken lines indicate page breaks. Drag them over to solid blue lines to include them in the page. This will also automatically reduce print size so that it fits in the number of pages you create.

the 2 ways given above are pretty good
sometimes you can get a better bang for the buck by just reducing the font size. how small a print can you live with ? you can "select all" and change the font size. you can even set it smaller than the minimum size in the drop-down box. let's say the minimum is 8 type in a 7 (with "select all' still selected) and hit enter. font size changes to 7. as sgtspector said "trial and error" good luck |

I didn't get a chance to post Wednesday night, but wanted to come here and do so. I did the option of going into page break view and adjusting. Unlike the default view that only changed what was displayed on screen instead of in all views, break view changed how it was printed (which of course is what it was designed to do.) Thanks everyone. I will have to keep this page so I can try other ways too.
