playing image on computer w/o having to burn to dvd?

ok, so i have this movie image file (though i cant figure out what extension it has) and want to know if i can just play the file on my computer w/o having to first burn it to a blank dvd. anyone know if this is possible, and how to do it? thanks guys.

daemon tools can mount images as virtual disks, then you can just play just like any real disk.
