Multiple Addresses in Outlook 6
Hi guys, just another Outlook Express 6 question for you.
I have a mailing list with about thirty addresses. Right now, as it stands, if I send a message out, the recipients are able to see everyone else's email address in the "TO:" heading. What i'd like to do is create an alias, so that everyone who receives the messages sees a name like "email group" or "client list" rather than the full list of addresses and recipients. Is this possible? |

Just send the email using the BCC function. No one will be able to see anyone's addy.
Copy your own in the send to box if need be. |

One of the biggest annoyances of a Microsoft email program (including OE) is that the BCc: field is hidden by default. On your new message window go to View > All Headers .. you should see the BCc: field.

Thank you for those tips, guys. Just a few questions about that.
1. When i'm sending out emails in this fashion, is it okay to only use the BCC field? There doesn't have to be anything in the Send TO: heading? I tried this initially as a test, sending out mail to three recipients (including myself) and when I received the test mail all addresses were hidden, which was great. I noticed that instead of the addresses, in the Send TO: heading it said, "Undisclosed-Recipient". 2. Would it be possible to make that title a little more friendly sounding? I was hoping to add an alias of some sort. |

Don't sweat the title... Trust me, the people you're mailing stuff to will appreciate it.
And, yes, you can just use the BCC line. I do it all the time for club newsletters and such. Nothing worse than mailing a list of emails all over the web for anyone to spam these days. Also, anyone sending me a forward is fairly warned. I use the equivalent of computer acid to get rid of them... With my ministry, I get around 50 forwards a day -- each one some "must read" cute story about how God intervened in someone's life that no one knows. I'll take REAL news any day -- but stick all those forwards (especially the ones that upload music and graphics to my inbox) somewhere that is permanently dark, dank, and rather odoriferous. |

Thanks very much. That helped me quite a bit.
![]() Just curious about the "Undisclosed Recipient" naming system however. Is it technically possible to change that alias, or is it simply something that Outlook Express does not allow one to do? |

You could put in your own email address in the To: field and the rest of the addresses in BCc: and that would suppress the 'Undisclosed recipient' address. If you do a lot of these mailings to a list, and if you are using an email/web hosting service then I'd suggest looking into using a mail manager to send them out. It's a more elegant solution that allows people to subscribe or unsubscribe to your mailings and does a lot of things like control bounces etc.

Thx Statica. I tried creating a group name (i.e. alias) with only my own email address, and put that in the TO: field, as you instructed. I put a test group with multiple addresses in the BCC: field. When the test email arrived, all I was able to see was:
To: Stretchman(stretchman@###.com) Which was great! In the future, if my mailing list grows, I'll definitely look into a mail manager. Any suggestions? |
