What is DOS4GW ?

Was browsing my directories and found DOS4GW and I have never seen it before. What is DOS4GW?

some old games require dos4gw.exe, especially dos games.

DOS4GW was a 32-bit DOS extender that allowed DOS programs to not be limited to the 640K memory barrier by allowing access to the extended memory area above 640K.
