firefox download problem

hello,

sorry if this is already posted somewhere else but none i found from the search button.

i need to download a file with extension *.ssw but firefox keeps recognizing it as a webpage and keeps opening the file.

is there a plugin or a fix from the download settings where i could manage/add unknown file extension?

thanks,

It's not firefox.
You're dealing with a sealed flash file :

SealedMedia software integrates with existing business systems to deliver protection of valuable digital information. It enables complete control over who can use sensitive information and when. The originator can change rights to access and use a document even after it’s been delivered including revoking access.

This is called information rights management ( yeah, I know) and you don't have permission to download that file though, apparently, you can be permitted to view it.
More on it here : http://www.stellent.com/en/products/irm/index.htm

Provided you have permission and Microsoft Office you may have an alternative with this : http://download.sealedmedia.com/unsealer/

thanks for reply, but the *.ssw i need to download refers to software update firmware for sonyericsson mobile phone. Sorry for the confusion, i never thought a similar file extension do exist for micro$oft. Firefox tabs forces to open the file and all could be seen are 'wild' ascii characters all around the screen. Would there be any chance to download it?

wbr,

Ah, thanks for that.
Doesn't Sony tell you to use IE for all of it's downloads?
What you need is the Open in IE tab extension for fire fox and put that Sony page on the list of sites that are to be used with IE only.

sorry but it doesn't work either, if i choose save link as, the file will be saved is 'attachment.php' and not the file itself.

some file available for download are compressed in *.rar extension i have no problem downloading. But this *.ssw is a headache

about using s0nyericsson firmware, its not an purely official s0nyericsson firmware but a 'compressed' one and its used for 3rd party firmware programming. (from www.setool.net)

wbr,
