Looking for a program that'll tighten up my partitions

I have WinXP Pro SP2 installed as my C drive, two physical CD drives and a backup partition. Sometimes Windows see the backup partition as D and other times as F. Obviously, there's some kind of bleed between the partition boundaries. Is there a program that'll fix this or do I have to wipe the hdd clean and start over? Thanks.

Can you post a screen shot of Disk Management found under Computer Management?

If a partition "goes" you have an unusable drive and a need to do data recovery, there's nothing gradual or "bleeding" about it, but the fact that XP keeps juggling drive letters points to registry problems.
How long has this been going on?

A while. I use a program called Acronis True Image to restore my C drive when it becomes unreliable or buggy. Maybe use it every 8-10 months. Thinking maybe that's what's causing the problem.

hello,

try the advice above, goto ->'my computer' -> right click select 'manage' -> 'computer management' -> 'storage' -> 'disk management' -> right click on any volume -> change drive letter and path -> do 'juggle' drive..

or post a screen shot here of the volumes.

windows do 'juggle drive' when running i.e. 2 os' (xp and 98 dualboot), and using 'backup image' IMO should not affect drive letters on volume.

wbr,

Would you explain what it is you do in some detail.
This says you've been restoring installs that have been steadily accumulating errors over time.
Is that what you meant?
