Multiple email accounts not possible w/ Outlook 2003 & AT&T DSL?

I just switched ISPs from Comcast to AT&T DSL and I'm familiar with setting up multiple email accounts in Outlook 2003.

I want to make sure the info given to me from AT&T tech support is accurate so I thought I should ask here:

Is there an easy way add multiple email accounts in Outlook 2003 with AT&T DSL? I was used to Comcast, where I could have up to six accounts. Every time I opened Outlook, it would check my email for each account one at a time.

But with AT&T, it will only check my default email address. If I add another email account in Outlook 2003, I must make that new email address my default, and turn off the previous email address in the process, in order to check for email.

The only other option is to setup email accounts through the AT&T/Yahoo home page.

I prefer to use Outlook. I was wondering if anyone knows of a workaround for this.

Thanks in advance

You have to set up the additional accounts through the home page anyway - once that is done, I see no reason why they can't be added to Outlook.

I'm not sure what you mean. The server type is POP3 and they would just be email accounts through AT&T like "email@att.net".

Are you talking about using HTTP when adding another email account in Outlook under the server type options instead of POP3?

You went into ATT's web site and created several email accounts just like you did with Comcast? If so, you should be able to add them to Outlook and have all check mail one after the other just like you did with Comcast.

I never used Comcast's home page to add multiple email accounts. I used Outlook 2003 exclusively and they all had the same "@comcast.net" domain. I can't do that with AT&T from what I've been told...

I tried adding my AT&T/Yahoo account with the HTTP server option checked but it didn't work.

The AT&T rep I spoke with sounded like she wasn't too familiar with Outlook 2003, only Outlook Express.

When I signed up with Comcast six years ago I opened it with one email account. However, I had the ability to go to their web site and create five additional addresses....I'd imagine you would have had to do that as well. The ISP has to know about these account since they flow through their system...Only way they'll know about em is if you set them up through them...

Another reason you have to set the accounts up through them is to avoid 18 people ALL setting up Ted S@att.net

Yes you're right and I need to back up here because I forgot something that you just mentioned: When I created a new email account, I had to do it on Comcast's home page. Then I could add it in Outlook 03.

But the diffrence is (unless I've been told wrong) I could add more than one Comcast email account in Outlook. I can't do that with AT&T. I can create 10 email accounts at the AT&T homepage, but I can only have 1 of those accounts in Outlook.

If I add another email account, the password window keeps popping up when the server tries to check email for that account and I can't get rid of it unless I make that account my default email address.

I was just wondereing if there was some sort of workaround in Outlook 2003 to add more accounts without switching default accounts all the time.

When you set up each account in Outlook, are you telling it to remember the password and then testing it?

Yes. That's where the problems start.

When I test for the new email account, the password window keeps popping up. It doesn't matter what I do. I can enter the password correctly ten times and click OK but the window will keep popping up.

Are you entering the username correctly? I believe it has to be your complete e-mail address, not just your username.

Sorry for the late response.

Yes, I'm entering everything correctly, same as my default AT&T email account.
