Maintenance?

First of all, I didn't know which topic to stick this under, so Mods feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place.

I built my PC about 6 months ago with a great amount of help from PC Mech. Like any other person, I want my computer to last as long as possible and continue to perform to its highest potential. I was wondering what I should be doing as far as routine maintenance goes. I currently use diskeeper to defrag. my hard drive every other day, scan my PC with Spybot Search & Destroy, and have avast antivirus set up. Am I good to go, or are there other things I could be doing to prolong my PC's lifespan?

I'm considering this as my 6 month check-up with the doctors of PC Mech.

If you need specs on my computer, I'll be more than happy to share them.
Thanks

I will run diskeeper maybe every 3 to 6 months, or If I notice my hard drive performance is dropping.

I also have a modified host file, which helps with the spyware / malware, I also will run Spybot, and ad-aware also evert 3 to 6 months. Here's the host file website, http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

I also run daily scan, and updates of AVG.

I also use

-Diskeeper as my main defrag program, and it works great. I defrag once a week though or sometimes more often if I have been deleting/adding a lot of files to the drive.

-Spybot. Another great program. make sure you stay current on the updates. I run this every 2-3 weeks because I dont use IE. I rarely get any spyware on my system anyway.

-Ccleaner - great for cleaning out the trash from the PC. But use with a bit of care. I run this every week.

-AOl Active Virus Shield anti-virus. No strong preference here..AVG is also quite good. I scan once a week.

-Opera. Best browser. I can't live wthout it. *shudders at the thought of life with only IE/FF* Use this instead of IE, and you wont have to worry as much about contracting spyware/malware from websites. If you download and click random crap, then ofcourse, its a whole different ballgame.

Mine goes like this :
AVG runs every morning and down loads updates then ( I'll do this manually later on that day if I had to be out at the time. ).
I run AdAware Smart Scan several ties a week ( and I update first) along with Spybot S&D (also updated) and AdAware full scan at least once in that period.
I check Spyware Blaster weekly and update as indicated.
I run XP's defrag once a month unless it's been really busy in which case I run it more often ( Rule of thumb: the fuller the HD gets the more frequently you defrag. ).
I use RegCleaner every month as well but that's just my preference for seeing everything, if you're not that fussy run CCleaner.
I copy my HD contents to my external drive once a month or, if it's been an intense month, as needed so I have a recent back up and burn really needed files to disk as extra insurance.
I would clone the drive to the external if I thought I was facing a failure but that hasn't happened yet.
