Is the acronis true image free version still available?

Hi, I remember a thread awhile ago pointing to a free version of Acronis True Image 7. I had it installed on my PC, but reformatted. Does anyone know where I can find this? Or perhaps another free HDD imaging software program?

No, it's not. Why don't you just buy the latest version - it's not that expensive.

This is the only freebie that I'm aware of:

http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm

what exactly is that version, an OEM version or something? I think i might just order the retail box. Its 4.99 more (just the shipping charge), but i like having a hard copy in case anything goes wrong. My only other question is: can i use this software on more than one computer? I would like to make backups of both my laptop AND my desktop.

The retail box is the way to go if you want it to come with a bootable CD.

Technically, you can only use it on one computer. In reality, it will install and work on a second computer, but you can only register it on one computer. You cannot download updates or get support with an unregistered copy.

The software actually does not have to be installed to work - you can create and restore images by booting with the CD. The only reason to install is to do things from within Windows, enable scheduled backups, and do incrementals.

thanks--that apricorn enclosure i ordered should come with the OEM version of it, so that should be sufficient for now. I may still purchases the full version, though. My dad's dell has been having a few problems with hard drives, so I'm helping him to set up an external backup solution; imaging his computer wouldnt hurt either...too much important financial stuff on there

If you can make the BART PE disk for Runtime Drive IMAGE XML, it's a great simple product. I've been using it for sometime now. The only issue I have with it is that it is necessary to save your desktop theme settings on another drive first. Sometimes in resotration, it kills the active desktop. But other than that, I've never had it fail.

I liked it because it worked better than the earlier ghosts and acronis in imaging and backup! It's not fancy, but works!
