Zune software won't install

I have a Zune and microsoft knowing them released there own questionable software. Still don't know why they couldn't just allow it to run through WMP 11. (Probably so people don't share music files all of the time.) Well anyway, I don't like windows update. Everytime I have had that on it seems like I just get a bunch of security updates which I don't really need. Does anyone know what you have to install to get the Zune software running. I know you need xp service pack 2 but I am not sure what else. Please help me out.

So you can't install iTunes and you can't install the software for Zune.
What security software are you running?
Are you getting any "access denied" messages or anything about Windows Installer?

I have very limited security. I only have nVidia firewall and what ever protection my other software comes with. iTunes, I have no clue what's wrong with it. It doesn't even try to install. Zune software starts and then tells me it is connecting to the social network, then tells me there are no updates. I still cannot continue however because the only button there is to press is the cancel installation button. They sound unrelated but they could be.

Those security updates are patches that fix major vulnerabilities in Windows. It is really NOT a good idea to ignore these. Do you really need them? Maybe not. But it's a really good idea to let them install especially if you're running "minimum security". Why take the risk? Have you not updated to SP2? That is also highly receommended.

Go here and run housecall : http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

This will begin to give us some idea of what's going on.

If you have any trouble getting to the site or housecall closes as soon as it's opened post back with that information.

I am running SP2. Some of the hardware on my PC requires it. I have found the more updates I install on my PC the longer it takes to boot, and the more *unnecessary* files I have using up space. I have never really seen any improvement and have only ever gotten one virus, and that was on my really old PC that just have Millenium Edition. I found the other update I needed to install Zune. It turns out I hadn't updated to Windows Installer 3.1. I thought I had but I guess not. It works fine now. Thanks for all you help.
