Several problems; drivers? memory?

Some weird stuff has been going on; I'm not really sure what to associate it with.

One thing is that Battlefield 2 will randomly crash. It just closes without warning or error messages. It also will occasionally give me a weird distorted effect. I don't have a screenshot, but it basically screws all the colours up, and some images (like the badges and little icons in the menu) will just not show up.

Another thing that seems to have popped up around the same time is a problem with streaming videos. If I am trying to load too many videos (say 4 HD videos in quicktime via gametrailers), then firefox will crash.

Anybody got any ideas? Is this a memory problem, or maybe linked to my video driver?

well try updating the video drivers and then check if you have any bad ram modules by testing each individually.

I have the newest (which doesn't always mean the best, right?) drivers for my video card.

How do I test my ram?

Before you add one more thing please answer some questions.
Were you having trouble before?
If not when did it start?
Any updates associated with that time?
In short, what's the history of your problems.
Also, please post your specs.

Nothing significant happened that I can think of that would have triggered this. No notable updates/new software/anything else. It kinda popped up out of nowhere.

My specs:

asus p5b mobo
intel e6600 cpu
8800gts eVGA card
corsair 2x1G ddr2 667 ram
550W seagate psu

no overclocking or anything either.

This is more likely to be software than hardware then.
The first thing to try is an uninstall and reinstall of your video drivers and get the latest DX 9/10 upgrade from Microsoft, the one that came out in June, if you haven't done so already.
Then park your saved games someplace safe and uninstall/reinstall Battlefield and don't forget any patches after the reinstall.
If Battlefield is back to running well then check Quicktime .
