Interesting.
Would or wouldn't Symantec think you'd broken the EULA if you tried that? Technically it is one computer but I doubt Symantec will take a liberal view of the matter. I would put the, very effective and much less of a headache, free stuff on the XP partition. We recommend AVG (Grisoft), Zone Alarm, Spywareblaster, AdAware, and Spybot Search & Destroy.

Interesting indeed. Morally, I'd be OK with it as it is one computer, but since NAV requires online registration, they may have a different idea... In the past, they use to have decent support so maybe an email to them is in order, or you could just try it and see what happens... (I'd do a full backup first, though, as NAV is hard to get rid off after installation.)

Wasn't registration for NAV optional? (it was at least for the 2001/2002 editions, which were the last ones I ever performed installations for)

The Norton EULA says "one computer" and now, to get updates, you have to register.

Personally, I wouldn't install Norton (or McAfee) on any pc I own or service. Norton's Security Suite takes over your computer and seems to assume all pc users know nothing about security. And trying to set up a network with the individual version of Norton gives "painful" a new meaning. I would dump it from both os's and use AVG that Pam has recommended. You'll enjoy the pc a whole lot more - that's just my opinion.

Dumping Norton was the first (of several) steps I had to undertake to network my XP and Vista p.c.'s. It pained me to do this as I still had 7 or so months of coverage but as Panama Red stated, networking wasn't do-able until Norton went away.

It depends which version of Norton he has. When i went with my mother to buy her a laptop, the guy was trying to sell us Norton Internet Security '07. I was reading the back of the box (just to entertain the guy, i'll never buy norton), and it said that you can install that copy of Norton on up to three different machines. |
