Memory card reader drivers ?

Hey guys,

i just got this generic memory card reader which didn't come with any drivers or anything, it connects internally to this 9 pin USB connection on my motherboard, which i connected to. it lights up and everything.. when i turned the pc on it recognized 2 sets of drivers "USB device" and "Unknown device" - im guessing the unknown device is the memory card reader portion, it has 4 slots for memory cards and 1 usb slot, which works just fine.. unfortunately no card can be read.. i was wondering if i can get any help ? i tried reinstalling its drivers but that didn't do anything, im guessing i need some specific drivers for this thing but unfortunately its generic as i mentioned

Thank you

If you right click on it and bring up Properties and click on Hardware does any manufacturing info turn up?

any ideas someone ? i got it from my brother-in-law he told me i can just give it back to him and he'll request a different model from wherever he got it or something.. but that all happens in the US and i live in Israel so that's not such a good idea.. i would just like the drivers for this and get it set up

Are you running XP? XP doesn't need additional drivers for a card reader. It could be defective. Or it could be wired wrong. Was the connector a bunch of little single wire connectors or one big block of wires? Also, do the additional "drives" show up in Windows Explorer?

nope it was 1 big wire with 4 pins on the bottom and 5 pins on the top which im positive i plugged correctly, the LED on the thing works and the usb slot works just fine. regarding the "drivers", they dont show in windows explorer / my computer as they're not really "storage devices" since they're not being recognized or whatnot

If you can try it on another computer.
If you see the same thing you need another.

Without more info we're stuck but...
Here's the CompUSA web site : http://www.compusa.com/
Find the memory card reader(s) that looks like yours.
At least it will be a place to start before you have to start spending cash.

KoMoDo,
email support at CompUSA and get replacement drivers from them or from a link they give you.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... but that driver disk is for legacy systems: ie Win ME, Win 98, etc.. and not for XP.

Are you running XP, KoMoDo?

Approximations won't work and he doesn't, apparently, have the driver disk.
The only guys who can tell him what drivers he needs are at CompUSA.
But he has to identify the card.
My reaction, that he whap relatives who deliver this stuff without documentation upside the head, will not promote international harmony.

yep i am running XP. there is simply no way to identify the device but ill take a look around although im pretty sure its generic, maybe i can find some info on the device itself once ill disconnect it and look at it.
suppose what i can do is just ask my brother-in-law to ask the company where he got it to re-send us another one or drivers for this one or however it should go :|
