Word Temp Files

I was working on a letter and was about to email it. Then I realized I wanted to change some of it. So I closed the outlook email window and when asked to save or not I said no thinking it was asking if I wanted to save the email. Whoops. Does anyone know definitively where the word temp files are kept and if the file should be there or not. I am running Office 2003 on Win xp pro. TIA.

Any ideas what extension it would use? I had never saved it so I don't know if it would have a doc extension or not. There's nothing showing in that directory. I already type it over again but I would like to know for future reference. TIA

You need to enable display of hidden and system files. It's either going to have a .tmp extension or it will be the document name with the first letter replaced by a ~ with a .doc extension if I'm not mistaken. You may want to customize the options in Word for autosave and location.

Odds are you won't find a temp file....In theory, all apps are suppost to clean up after themselves and empty the temp folder.

I already have hidden and system files enabled and no luck. It's funny if the computer locked up while working I would probably get the file back at least in part. Too bad there's no protection for a brain fart.
