Ipod-Itunes

I have searched the other threads on this topic, but I've still failed to find a solution. I need to copy the music from my Ipod to my Itunes...I do not have the original drives, or a copy of the Itunes Library stored on the Ipod itself...any freeware programs that can help me?

Back up a minute.
You have a functional iPod with your music playing on it?
You have the most recent install of iTunes and it's been re-authorized?
An iPod is also a a usb drive so go here and read this ( Scroll down till you get to Jeff Bryan's post. ) : http://discussions.apple.com/thread....48868&#5148868

Do not do any of this with your iPod still connected to the computer

An authorized computer simply means it's one of the 5 computers that can play/buy music or videos from your iTunes account.
If you wipe iTunes and transfer everything to another computer/ hard drive you de-authorize the current account so you don't lose a computer.
In iTunes, under Store, you'll see it in the drop down menu along with Re-Authorize, Check for current purchases, etc. .
For you, install the latest version and identify yourself with your account information ( You kept that written down in a safe place, right?) by filling it in.
You may be asked if you want to "Authorize" this computer, say yes.

Now pay attention to the instructions, if you carelessly sync the iPod to the new iTunes install, which doesn't have your music, it will wipe the iPod .
What you should have done is switch the iPod to manual before you zapped the last install but from your post you didn't.
The music you purchased from Apple will transfer over.
Switch the iPod to manual and any imported music can be dragged and dropped into iTunes.
Play a song, if it ask for authoirzation give it, that will authorize everything and you'll be good to go.
Switch the iPod back to auto-sync.

These are general instructions read through the link, and it's info first.
If you're still confused post back before you do anything.

okay, i authorized the computer - that i had already done actually I just wasn't sure that's what you meant....so i selected the options under Advanced like it said, and when i connected the Ipod I held down both shift and controls keys (4 keys at once) and was never prompted to sync the Ipod...so i went to add folder and my computer, however my Ipod does not show up to select

So you checked out the other instructions below it?
At this point I would just go for the 3rd party app : http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/

okay, so i got all the music off my Ipod into Yamipod...that was exciting...then from there I'm not exactly sure how to get the music to Itunes...so i tried exporting the playlists to a file, then importing it once i was in Itunes, however it said i don't have enough privileges to acces the file
