Anyone Know Of This Type Of Software
Can anyone give me any example of free or not free software that I can use to watch tv on my desktop. I have windows vista with media center but don't always want to go through windows media center to watch tv.

How do you intend to receive the broadcast? Terrestrial, Satellite or internet streaming?

InterVideo WinDVR 3 for watching Cable TV (pricey at $80, though)
Open source media center (but might not work on Vista) : http://www.team-mediaportal.com/ If you have a TV tuner, look at what the manufactuer has available (although, if you have an ATi card, you're better off going with a 3rd party app...I wrestled with their software for years before finally giving up on it).
