Help me decide

We run five peer to peer computers in the museum. They run either with Windows 2000 or XP Pro OS. Some staff members would like to upgrade our Microsoft Office package from 2000 to 2007. Perhaps the biggest reason is that the museum collection database in on Access 2000 and we think that Access 2007 will give us more flexibility. I would like input from you all about the benefits of upgrading to Office 2007 as I need to approach my board members for approval.

Here's what Microsoft has to say about the compatibility of Access 2007 with Access 2000.

Anyone else have opinions about upgrading, or not, to Microsoft Office 2007?

You need to do some training first. I would also make sure that you keep a copy of Access 2000 installed on at least one computer. We have had some issues where certain things didn't work properly with Access 2007. One was a pretty simple export to a tab delimited text file that had to be 2,000 characters on each line and certain fields had to be in certain positions. It worked perfectly with 2003 but I never could get it to work with 2007.

I dont think you can run Office 2007 on Windows 2000. Too many versions back. Are you planning to do an OS upgrade also ? Win XP is OK but not Win 2000.

Hopefully, you know already that Microsoft (along with many others) offers pretty hefty discounts to non-profits. It seems last time I looked XP was around $60 and Office was a hair more. I have bought from CCB before.

Yes I knew that but had forgotton! Thanks. My main problem with upgrading is my computer illiterate museum educator. He has to use a computer daily but nothing sticks. I spend a lot of time going over the same things. What can u do with a retired bird colonel

Well, you can upgrade him to XP and set everything classic - he would never notice the difference.
