Question outlook express with hotmail problems

could do with a little help here, i have just tried getting my e-mails and outlook express is giving me a hard time.
for the last three years i have been able to connect to my hotmail account via outlook express but today it is telling me that my account name and password are wrong i think. it shows two messages....

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Invalid login.', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC32

Header download for the 'Inbox' folder did not complete. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Invalid login.', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC32

i have checked these by going into it via my browser and signing itno msn messenger and both ways work.

i am just a little bit confused

can anyone help?

This is the sort of thing that may clear up on it's own.
If it doesn't you'll have to reconfigure OE to get your messages from Hotmail.

From Hotmail's help section:

Can't access my free account from Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express

[quote]To protect our users from the increasing amount of unsolicited junk e-mail or spam sent from MSN Hotmail accounts through Outlook and Outlook Express, we have reluctantly had to restrict the new use of Outlook and Outlook Express to subscribers only.

By making this feature part of a subscription (which requires a user to provide billing information), we can more effectively manage and put a stop to the abuse of this feature, and help protect you and others from unsolicited mail.

If you purchase a subscription service such as MSN Hotmail Plus, or MSN Premium, you get access to your account from Outlook or Outlook Express, along with many other added features. To see other benefits of upgrading your MSN Hotmail or MSN accounts or to create a new subscription account, visit our subscription information page.[\quote]

They started dropping the free connection to OE over three years ago...

thx for the help.
so...... u stated they started dropping these 3 years ago.....
how come its just happened to me?
i thought that because it hadnt happened when they did start doing this that it hadnt affected me and why should it happen over night coz things were fine one day and then messed up the next without any warning from msn or hotmail staff to my knowledge
but then again i very rarely read their e-mails that they send me lol oops
how can i get this rectified?
do i have to subscribe to microsoft?
seems like theyre trying to charge for a free service
is that right?

By rights, since they said they were only charging for new accounts, you shouldn't be getting hit with this.
On the other hand, it's Microsoft.
Are you willing to go through all the steps to file a complaint (after you contact support to make sure this isn't caused by something else. )?

think its a right pain but will keep trying to sort it.
personally i think it may be a software problem but cant figure out how or why it just turned up all of a sudden like.
thx for both your replies
