i deleted a word document by mistake

Hi, I deleted a word document by mistake the other day. I have Vista 64. Is there a way to recover it? thanks

A quick google search turns up a bunch of file recovery utilities...

I don't know what's good and what's not - so use discretion.

How long ago did you delete? The longer it's been the lower the chance that you can recover. When you delete, the actual data isn't deleted but just references to where it's located on disk. The data will stay there until it's overwritten by something else...

yea i tired a couple of those applications but to no avail. i did a disk defrag, and registry cleaner. dunno if that made it more likely that it cant be recovered.

The defrag probably killed any chance you had for recovery.

Did you try this?

nope, its ok. It was a 3 page essay that i deleted. I just did the paper again. thanks
