Environment error

I dont know if this is the right section but my issue is I recently downloaded and installed service pack 3 and it seems now that everytime I restart the computer it is as if it is the first time I have started it , it says something like my environment cant be found and it always has deleted anything I have saved before the reboot any suggestions or remedies to this?

I thought it was the windows service pack for windows XP , I got it from windows update.......

SP3 for XP is in Beta and isn't available to the general public yet.

Look in add/remove program and see if you can figure out exactly what you installed.

Im not sure but I think it may be one of these environment things since when I do log on it always goes to a vista environment which I never had or changed to...............

This is the message that comes up when I try and log on...................

"Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.


DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry."

and I am on the adminstrator's side........................
