What is a good and simple Player?

I am looking for one that is high in simplicity yet still offer all the basic functions, Play/Pause, stop, fast forward/backward, etc.

WMP 10 is nice and all, but its interface is too flashy for me and redundant extra features. Also, the thing feel liek it is sucking up my system resource every time I run it, not sure if that even considered a valid argument.

I really liek the interface of Real 10, but I read that Real Player overall is not a very good piece of program. Can someone shed some light on this for me? It was voted #1 Most Worthless Tech or something. I might just use it again anyway.

Also, is it a good idea to use a 3rd party Megatype Codec Pack? I heard that the files or wat/ever could screw up yur original files or such.

I am currently powering all my players w/ K-Lite and so far, the pack is wonderful.

Is Winamp good?

Give VLC a try, free and plays virtually all video and audio.

I like Jet Audio Media Center. I haven't found anything it won't play yet. And it's free.

I use Winamp regularly and I'd recommend it. I have noticed WMP used less memory on initial start up than Winamp 5.5. They both play my audio just fine but I prefer Winamps features.

I agree, If you dont want to use Wmp, Vlc is the clostest thing to it. Very small and plays almost everything with out downloading extra codecs etc.

I have both VLC and Media Player Classic with K-Lite Basic, Real and QT Alternatives. I finally broke down and installed WMP 9 because there are a couple sites I go to that *require* it. It's deassociated from everything else. I got rid of Winamp years ago when AOL bought it out and it started to bloat.

I'm hoping to look for one that has a contemporary interface look. Similar layout to Real 10 Premium would be nice. Not too bulgy here or too shiny there. Just the right mix yu know. One thing I don't liek about Real is that it has a came-in Burner program, which is inferior compared w/ Nero.

VLC look nice, but the fact that they have all the functions on top of the page is a bit unconventional for me.

Also, should I remove WMP 9 before install 10?

glc, why WMP 9 and not 10 or 11? I have 9 now and am thinking about upgrading to 10 because my little voice recorder / MP3 player requires it... (I can always use my laptop with Vista, though.)

Um, to use Real Alternative Lite, yu just need to install it w/ K-Lite right? SInce K-Lite Pack already provide the Classic Player.

No, they don't *have* to be together.

But they can ja? A single player for all codec is better, than 2 million different versions for 100 different codecs.

Install all the codecs and alternatives you want, they can all work in Classic Player. If Classic is already there, it won't reinstall.
