If the hard drive is physically damaged, i.e. unable to be accessed, then you will have to use a data recovery service. They are quite expensive though. I spent $1500 on a bad HD for a customer awhile back.

If the hard drive is still seen in the bios, it can usually be recovered. There are a lot of data recovery packages out there - a few freebies and some commercial ones. Most of the commercial ones offer a demo download which will tell you what it CAN recover before you buy a key to make it work.

Some to look for:

PC Inspector
Recuva
GetDataBack
Ontrack Easy Recovery

Do a Google search for these. Of the free ones, I like PC Inspector the best.

* OnTrack Data Recovery
* PC Inspector (FREE)
* Power Data Recovery
* GetDataBack
* Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery
* GetData
* RecoverMyFiles
* Directory Snoop
* TestDisk (FREE)
* PhotoRec (FREE)

However, NOTHING is going to work if the drive is no longer seen by the bios.
