Problem with Watermarks in Word 2003
I wonder if anyone can help please?
I've created documents containing a table in Word in portrait, and by necessity, with quite a full page - 0.5cm margin top & bottom. Once I apply a watermark to the page the botton cell of the table 'drops' to a newly inserted sheet, thus making a 3 page doc a 4 pager, and destroying the table appearance. This is irrespective of the font size of the watermark etc. Any ideas please why this is occuring and how I can get around it?

In Format have you selected Background or have you just gone straight to Insert ?

Did you play around with the "size" option when adding the watermark?

Try the first size 36 and see if it helps

These are the steps to use :
http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2...-in-word-2003/ Everything you've done matches them? I'm asking because it sounds as if your text watermark is consistently being treated as a picture insert with the text is arranged around it. When you set up that table what settings did you change and, after saving the document of course, did you change them back ? |

Tried size 36 and still the same, EzyStvy.
Yes Pam123, those were the steps I took; not sure if I know what 'settings' you're referring to though? And thank you both for your help. |

I was assuming you'd tried this but maybe not.
Does the same thing happen if you place the watermark diagonally on the page instead of in the footer or header ? |

The watermark is diagonal. The same result occurs however, if I put it horizontal.

Set up a new page in portrait mode, it can be any other document/table you have around, and see if it continues to happen.
I want to know if it's a peculiarity of that particular document or if you're having the problem with everything. |

Sorry Pam123, in my haste to post I said the page was in portrait - it's actually in landscape.
I have tried placing a table onto a new document as you asked, and as soon as I apply a watermark horizontal or diagonal, small or large font, the bottom row of cells drop. |

Put a watermark on the Excel sheet when it is created in Excel, not by using Word.
You can't actually do that directly in Excel but you can work around that by doing the following : http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1747937,00.asp |

Thanks Pam123, I've now used the WordArt method suggested succesfully - although I'm still intrigued as to why the watermark method didn't work.

There are odd gaps in Office that you don't find out about until you hit them.
The real "tear your hair out" thing is that it can work for some tables/charts under the same conditions but it won't work for others. So the only thing to do is back-off and try another approach. |
