hotmail in thunderbird

A few of you may know I've used Outlook Express for years now.

I've tried alternatives at times, but it looks like thunderbird has more or less matured at this point.

So, the only thing holding me back from a full switch is my hotmail account, which was grandfathered in with HTTP server access (and I'm assuming POP/SMTP access).

Is there a way to access it with thunderbird or thunderbird extensions? I tried the webmail extension, but didn't seem to have too much luck with it.

Any ideas? Thanks

Nevermind...I found a better set of configuration instructions that did the trick nicely.

Just to note..by default, this does not leave a copy of the message in your hotmail account. You'll have to check the option in "server settings" for the account.

This is a bit late Force, but for what it's worth that method is the only way I've found to get hotmail working with Thunderbird. It's not perfect - I used to get server timeouts quite frequently, and eventually I went back to using Outlook, but hope you have more luck with it.

As of last night, I took the plunge and migrated to thunderbird/lightning.

It still needs a bit of tweaking here and there to get it exactly the way I want it, but so far, so good.
