Outlook vs. Thunderbird/Lightning

Hi all,

I have been using Outlook for a couple years now mainly because of the calendar integration with email. As of late I have been playing around with Google Calendar a bit and I'm starting to like it as well. I have thus started to look at possiblities of integrating Google Calendar with my regular email program. While this is possible with Outlook, it's also possible with a Thunderbird/Lighting combination.

I've come here now to ask for opinions of what people thought about using Thunderbird/Lightning vs. using Outlook. I know given the M$ Office Integration, Outlook can become a bit bloated at times. On the other hand, Thunderbird is open source, and hasn't the development now stopped?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and opinions.

I don't know if you saw my thread or not, but as of last night, I migrated from OE to thunderbird/lightning. I agree, outlook is too bloated for what I need it for (I use it at work), and although it took some time to set everything up the way I wanted it, so far it seems to be going well.

I have also been using T'bird for a long time and much prefer it to Outlook. For a calendar I use Rainlendar, which is a great little [free] app. and v. light on resources.
