Can't Burn a Bootable CD of Memtest with Nero 6 on a different PC
I'm still using Nero 6 that came with the Sony DVD burner on my old PC. I have an older version of Memtest but I wanted to make a bootable CD of the latest version.
It's been a long time since I've made my current Memtest bootable disc on my old PC, but I'm unable to do so on my current desktop. I try to use the CD-ROM (Boot) option in Nero Burning ROM SE but am unable to use either of the two DVD Burners on my PC, apparently because they are not Sony. I get a message that says "This function is only available for Sony recorders". I am only able to make a quick image file to my hard drive. I'm not sure if I'm not following all the steps properly in the Burning ROM SE menu. There was a link with step by step directions on how to make a bootable CD of Memtest with Nero 6 but I can no longer find it. All of the Google links I've found don't give directions using Burning ROM. I know there are some specific settings I need to change, but I can't remember what they were. I don't understand. I'm able to burn CD & DVDs on both my optical drives with Nero but NOT a bootable disc? There was a copy of Nero 7 that came with one of the DVD burners on my current system but it was very limited. I could only burn CDs but not DVDs so I uninstalled it.Is there a way around this limitation in this (Sony) version of Nero 6 or am I going to have to buy the full version of Nero 8? I've read mixed reviews on that version.

Here are the ISO burning instructions you asked for : http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm
They're both for freeware ISOburners and for Nero so if you can't get Nero to work ( the software is known to be locked to the drive you bought it with but I'm not sure about your particular problem) you can use the ISO burner to make your boot CD.

Thanks for that link pam, but I finally figured out how to create a bootable ISO using Nero Express.
All the time I've had Nero 6 installed on my newer PC, I've only used the Nero Express feature. It appears however that I cannot use any portion of Burning ROM SE on this system because of the Sony license I guess. |
