PDF image quality

I'm trying to convert a Word document to PDF with either Acrobat or Open Office.
The document contains a small image which is my logo.
When i convert the document, the image looks crappy. Is there some trick to keeping the logo/image nice and sharp?
Should I be using a certain image format?

For Settings, you'll get the highest image quality if you turn off Downsampling and Compression in the PDF Settings -- Images section.

If this results in a file that's too large, you can experiment with the settings for downsampling. Start at 300 dpi and go lower from there if the image quality is maintained. I'll guess you're using a color bitmap of some sort (jpeg, gif, bmp, tif), so the Color Image section will have the most effect on your output.
