Monitor Won't Display (Software)

I was watching a movie I had created with mpcstar / tigerplayer and the codec was upside down. So I decided to flip the screed upside down because graphics card supports that. I pressed ctrl+alt+down arrow and it worked fine, but when I flipped it back with ctrl+alt+up arrow the screen just got stuck black!

What do you think caused it?!

Also, I can't hold the power down because the power button doesn't work unless you press it really hard. I tried to turn it off but it wouldn't turn off, so I was forced to let the battery die out (which made it automatically hibernate). When I started up the computer again, it did display windows loading, but as soon as it got into windows I got the black screen again, because it loaded all the settings I had when it hibernated.

I plugged in an external monitor, and it showed something on the LAPTOP monitor, and nothing on the external monitor! Anyways, I was able to see the taskbar, but nothing on the desktop, and it looked like it was in a small resolution and 32-bit mode. I was able to restart the computer, and it loaded the default settings except the screen was flipped 90 degrees to the right. I fixed it by pressing ctrl+alt+up arrow.

Now everything is okay, BUT, I am just wondering what in the world happened! I want to understand it, but I don't want to do it again. Does anyone have any idea on what happened at all?
