Ok found something interesting recently i couldn't find it on this forum so i thought i do the post.
I have AVG 8 Pro and, recently i tryed signing into MSN Messenger 8.5 and would get errors for connection when there was no connectivity issues. Overall it ended up being AVG 8's WebSheild Instant Messenger Checker, that was stopping it from signing in. How To Resolve The Issue: (Option 1) - Go to "tools -> Advanced Settings" of AVG and disable the "Instant Messenger Protection" in WebSheild. - Then go "Ignore Faulty Conditions" to disable that "AVG is not working properly" notification in the Tray. (Option 2) - Uninstall AVG and reinstall it to your computer, but during install REMOVE the "WebSheild" installment. Hope this may help at least one person :P Thanks, METAL13 (W.Australia) |

I had the same problem a few weeks back and it kept giving me a "hosts file error", I renamed the msn host file to .old (did not delete just in case) and I haven't had a single problem since.
