Nero 8

Hey guys,

I'm using Nero Express 8 on Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I keep recieving the error "Illegal Disc" whenever I try to copy a cd, regardless of what it is CD, DVD, Software, Music, movie, data. And now even when I jsut try to burn a data disc I still get the error. What could be causing this problem?

My suggestion is to uninstall nero 8, run a clean up tool for the registy.
Then re-install Nero 8 with a updated version from their website and making sure you have the correct Serial at install.

any other ideas people?

Try CDBurnerXP. It's freeware.

I've never been happy with nero's performance beyond version 6.

CDBurnerXP doesn't seem to like Vista. Kept getting errors when trying to install. I'm going to uninstall, clean the registry, and reinstall and see if it works

Edit: Tried uninstalling, cleaned the registry, reinstalled and even got the latest update and still got the "illegal disc error" however, the write progress got to about 12% while before it wouldn't even start. I saved the error log this time so if anyone knows mroe about this here are all the details:

You need the .NET framework installed for CDBurnerXP. Although, I'm pretty sure it would prompt you if you didn't, rather than crash.

As for nero, here's the common suggestions I came across:

1) lower the burn speed from 20X.
2) update the burner's firmware
3) The burner doesn't like the particular media you're using. So if you can, try + instead of - or visa versa, burn only at the disk's rated speed, or go with a different brand, such as TDK or verbatim

No direct links.

Click on device driver.
DVD-Rom Writer
Page 3, at the bottom, is an auto downloader that might work with your drive.

It treat my DVD's like CD's

Is there a program for DVD's as well as CD's?

That's just the name of the software. It burns both CDs and DVDs.

Well, I got my hopes up a little too early. When I burn files off of the computer I have no problems and when I copy DVDs I have no problems, but when I try to copy a data dvd I still have problems.

Just as an FYI, the error lists as: NeroError(-1046)

1) Check for any updates for Nero 8 on their site
2) Try a different brand of media
