Rarrrr
I feel like kind of a dope because I'm sure the answer is right infront of my face, but How do I use a rar file?
My tilt just (windows mobile 6) goes at them without any input, but my vista64 asks me what program I would like to use to open them. I'm stuck. oh yea, they are on an old hard drive a buddy gave me and some are music, some are apps, etc... |

You need to install Winrar or another archiving/dearchiving program that can handle .rar files.

If you just need to get the archives open, 7zip can do that, and it's free. It just can't go the other way and MAKE the RAR archives. Last I knew, Winrar wasn't free....maybe that's changed, but I thought they had a try before you buy type of deal.

Success, 7zip did it for me, and it looks like I can use it to compress my goodies for backup. Yay!

Yeah, if you use one of the other compression methods that it supports. Like I mentioned above, I don't think 7zip will compress to the RAR format (only uncompressing on that one). The 7Z compression format does a pretty good job though. Personally I like that one better than the normal ZIP format.
