Hello all . . . .
And if this needs to go in another area or is answered elsewhere , please point me in that direction. My system :: Dell Pentium 4 , 3.0GHz , Win XP Professional v2002 , SP3 , Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 webcam , , on a dial-up connection. Since I apparently live in a cave and don't get out much . . . need some insight -- or maybe just someone with a well-muscled arm to smack Yahoo! upside its collective head.I'm trying to mosey into some 'new' technology - don't everybody laugh at once - so that I will be able to web/video-chat with a couple of my out-of-state g'friends. Just trying to save some $$ and avoid those annoying dropped cell calls. I know , you can roll your eyes now . . . . I successfully downloaded Skype today and ran a couple of tests and everything looks ok so far. Now , if I can get the g'friends to do the same , there should not be any problems. However , I think they already have Yahoo! Messenger loaded in , so I want to download that and that is where I am encountering a problem , , or at least I think it is a problem. I went to the official Yahoo! download area for messenger , followed all the prompts and directions and when the "official" download/install box pops up the % complete bar keeps going back to zero. As in , , it gets to 3 , 4 or maybe even 5% complete , the bar then blinks 100% and completely fills , and then it goes back to 0% and starts again. So , is this normal ?? Is Y!M composed of lots of little components that install individually , , or is the universe just not wanting me to download Y!M ? ? ? I think maybe it's the latter and not the former , , but if you don't ask , you don't know. Appreciate your insight and answers . . . . and if you find that good-deed Genie that requires no contracts or commitments , , send them my way. Hope everyone is prepared for or safe from the hurricanes. Merri |

You are going to get very frustrated with doing what you want to do over dialup. This kinda links with your TV converter box thread - it's time to get cable TV and Internet. Your interest in new technology is not really compatible with dialup.

A thought - I understand $$$, but in a lot of areas, basic DSL is the same price as dialup these days. Not as fast as cable but a heck of a lot faster than dialup.
I just sent you a private message. |
