Installation Problems

I am attempting to install software onto a Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop using the installation CD. It gives me this message:

This software requires an additional 44 K bytes free on the D: drive to install. Please remove any unnessary files and try again.

The D: drive is the CD drive. I dont even know how to go about removing files from it. There must be some way around this. It gives me the option to ignore the message and continue, but the installation always gets hung and never completes. The PC is running XP. Any ideas?

What software is it? Is it an original genuine CD?

It is company software (Activant Eagle if that means anything to you) and it is genuine.

Which OS are you running?
Is the software a DOS based app by any chance?

I dont know enough about it to say if its DOS based. I do know that formerly it was built on the unix or linux platform. Most things we do now are with a windows interface, but there are some things that can only be done in a DOS like setting. This is an updated version of the software. So this PC already has an older version installed with no problems and all the other PCs were upgraded with no problems. All the PCs run XP.

Does it give you an option of what drive to instal it on before you get the error message?

Welcome to Activant Support
http://www.activant.com/support/

You could try coping the info off the cd to a temp folder on the hard drive and starting the install from there.

I know about the support options. I havent used it yet because its not that great. I figured I could get better help here. I have tried running the installation off the hard drive, but get the same error message, not enough space on the C: drive, which is not true. The hard drive is 60GB and only about half full.

How much physical ram, what are the pagefile settings, where is the temp and tmp environment located, and is the drive error free and defragged?

Use CCleaner to get rid of all temp files - and uncheck the advanced option to leave files less than 48 hours old alone.
