iTunes x64 Vista Issues.

I recently purchased an iPod shuffle however after realising its not compatible with WMP without installing payed plugins I was a bit distrort that I had to install the dreaded iTunes that I have heard so much about in a badway.

When downloading the official copy with quicktime off iTunes version 8.1 designed for 64bit. However every time I try to install It gets to the last part in the bar and says "copying new files" and then just turns to "rolling back action".

I have no idea how to remedy this situation because at the moment I can not put any songs on my ipod without iTunes.

Thanks.

WinAmp is free : http://www.winamp.com/

Read here : http://www.slyck.com/story1632_iPod_without_iTunes

An iPod is a usb player which means that if the music format is DRM free and supported you can just drag and drop files to the player.
As for the "roll back" Vista doesn't think you have permission to install.

Shadow are you reffering to dragging and dropping via My computer and then copy and paste/ drag and drop, or WinAMP drag and drop system?

Also how would I go about giving vista permission to install iTunes. I managed to install the 32bit on but I got a lot of errors and crashes so maybe I need to do a iTunes clean up or something.

Thanks.

Update (2008-1-21): One of the commenter’s below, found out that if you download iTunes from your Internet Explorer 64-bit version you get a version of iTunes that is 64-bit compatible. Now if Apple would only notify its users of this. Or fix their downloading software, or even the iTunes installer, to better detect Windows Vista 64-bit everybody would be in perfect shape. This is still a problem that could be easily avoided by Apple.

You can try the above after you uninstall the 32 bit version (Just to confuse matters there are reports on the Apple Forums of success installing the 64 bit version over the 32 bit version.).

Drag and drop via My Computer if you don't want to use WinAmp.

If you could install the 32 bit version then it's not a Vista permission problem.

That's what I would do. No software to worry about. That's what I do with my mp3 player.

Thanks for the great posts guys.

Ermm, I am not sure you can drag and drop on the ipod. I have always used the drag and drop in my computer way but my iPod shuffle will recognize songs that are put on there.

When you look in my computer > then shuffe > you can see all the these random folders and files almost like the real internals of an ipod.

However I tried putting an mp3 in every folder and the root directory. And still my iPod was not detecting anything. And yes I had turned it on, headphones in and pressed the play button - oh and checked the volume :P

I think I will try WinAMP I don't like installing more than one thing if you understand me but I am sure I can make a comprimise.
