any problems with Adobe CS4 & XP

XPpro SP3, 3GHz, 3GB single processor

Have been using a number of Adobe CS3 apps for some time. Nephew asked his 'tech uncle' to install a copy of CS4 Master Collection. I did, but only included Photoshop and Acrobat. Ran alongside my CS3, just kind of slow. None of my plug-ins worked. I uninstalled CS3, tried to reinstall plug-ins, but still uneven performance. Uninstalled the CS4 and attempted to reinstall CS3, but having trouble with that (had done a registry cleaning), so I figured it is time for my annual clean install of XP and reinstall of selected apps. I few tech guys I've spoken to seem to think CS4 is not a good mix with XP. Anyone have any experiences with CS4? Thanks

Are you running 64-bit XP?

That might be the problem.

Adobe CS4 is also developed to perform better under 64-bit and multi-core processors. Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe After Effects CS4, Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, and Adobe Soundbooth CS4 will officially support 64-bit. However, Adobe CS4 64-bit will not be available for Mac OS X.[4] In early testing of 64-bit support in Adobe Photoshop CS4, overall performance gains ranged from 8% to 12%. Those who work with extremely large files may realize noticeably greater gains in performance, in some cases as dramatic as ten times the previous speed. This is because 64-bit applications can address larger amounts of memory and thus result in less file swapping — one of the biggest factors that can affect data processing speed.

The specs are in the box on the right, it will run on Windows 32 bit but it won't run well.

Thanks for the input. You'd think I would have learned by now that not all updates are worth the time & effort involved. I'll stick with CS3 and tell my nephew my setup is not up to speed.

You say your setup is not up to speed it just goes back to the old saying "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT"
I use outdated now video software I bought in 2003 and I get compliments on how good my videos are sometimes.
